“It was beyond our dream”
Shabana and Taufeeque to school
“It was beyond our dream. We didn’t think we can go to school in our life” said by 7 year old Shabana and 6 years old Taufeeq, who first went to school from the four walls of their small room, where this two children and their 3 siblings living with their 75 years old grandparents. After the death of their parents they were struggling for livelihood and definitely education was a dream to these children. 14 years old girl is taking care of the family and 75 year old grandfather is trying to fulfil the basic needs of them.
Women’s Manifesto got to know about them through community level intervention at Sharmvihar, New Delhi. The organisation assisted the family for their livelihood with the support of philanthropist and motivated the children to do formal education. The children have no ID proof and birth certificate; it was challenge for the organisation to enrol them in school. With the intervention of Women’s Manifesto, Shabana and Taufeeque are going to SDMC primary school, Okhla in this academic year. Taufeeque is differently able and we are trying to get scholarship in future.
