Training Program for Adolescent Girls

Women’s Manifesto organised training program for adolescence girls of age 11 years to18 years on 4th & 5th May 2019. The objective of this program was to acknowledge adolescent girls about the physical and psychological changes during this period and remove their vacillation and empower them to utilize their capacities. Other than the sessions on different developmental stages of adolescence, the program included games, activities, documentary screening, psychological assessment, self defence training and art & craft.

Dr. Sharnas Muthu, Social Worker, Social Service Unit and General Secretary of Women’s Manifesto held a session on physical development and social issues faced by adolescent girls. The session gives a detailed description on developmental changes with group activities and body mapping. The session on Psychological development is taken by Ms. Umme Fatima, Program Coordinator, Women’s Manifesto. After the discussion session she administered psychological assessment, IQ test among the participants. Dr. Deeba Zubair, Gynaecologist, Al-Shifa Hospital took a session on Adolescent health issues and nutrition chart. The documentary screening is conducted on Menstrual Hygiene. Ms. Sana Khatun, Social Worker, Social Service Unit, SPUWAC and Mrs. Saman Zaki, Room to Read India held session on Legal rights and duties of children through activities and presentation. The self-defence training session is demonstrated by Mr. Zulfuquar Ali, trainer and art and training is conducted by Ms. Aneequa Nargees, the national level artist and member of Women’s Manifesto.  The participants made jute mat with her direction.

Twenty one students completed the training program. Mrs. Delony Manuvel, Director, Malabar Manuvel was the chief guest of valedictory session. She distributed certificate to the participants. “Getting to know myself” the book written by Prof. Neelam sukramani on adolescence is distributed to the participants.
