RSC Professional Development Program
Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), UK conducted a Professional Development Program (Yusuf Hamied Inspirational Chemistry Programme) on 22nd and 23rd October 2016 at The Scholar School, , Abul Fazal Enclave, Jamia Nagar, New Delhi in association with Women’s Manifesto for school teachers teaching science. Aim of this programme was to give teachers new tools for delivering and engaging effective science lessons. It was a capacity building exercise for teachers helping them to move from rote to active learning methods and thus making learning a joyful experience for the students by encouraging the natural curiosity of students to ask questions.
First day program started with the introductory speech of program coordinator Ms. Umme Fatima, in presence of Swaliha CA, President Women’s Manifesto. RSC resource person Vimla oak was the trainer. Training session began with brief introduction of the training program. The training program was divided in modules. Two module was completed on first day and she provide two books and first she gives introduction on learning and learning outcomes and program and she taught us active learning techniques and cover various activities given in the books, like DART activity etc. She taught different methods of teaching to make it interesting to the students. She talked about how to construct concept map before teaching, how to balance the equation, she gives home work to make Tarsia. The first session was very interesting, that was totally based on text book. Twenty three persons participated in first day from different schools, most of them from science background.
Second day was based on practical and for third module, 13 participants where there, who works very enthusiastically and took active participation in each and every activity, firstly she cleared concepts of states of matter (solid, liquid, gas) and particle motions etc, and we cover various exercises that what happens when waters boil, when ice melts, and complete particle graphs etc. we did various experiments on displacement, double displacement, Cartesian diver etc, she helped participants to clear misconceptions about basic chemical ideas. The session ended up with thanking speech of Ms. Shabeena , Executive member, Women’s Manifesto. She thanked resource person, participants and Mr.Ershad Aboobaker and Majida who worked for the arrangement of the event .
