Women's Summit 2018

Women’s Manifesto organised Women Summit 2018 on the theme  of 'Women and Justice' at Indian Social Institute, Delhi on 24th March 2018. The fourth annual programme of the organisation discussed various issues related to women and justice. Eminent scholars, social workers, legal professionals and academicians participated in the programme.

The programme was inaugurated by Adv. Anastasia Gill, member of Delhi Minorities Commission. She talks that in India we have the best of the laws and there is need to fill the loopholes in the existing legislations. Women have to act as change makers to make a positive atmosphere in the society. Bushra Alvi Razak, eminent writer and member of Women’s Manifesto gave presidential remarks.

Ms. Latika Vashisht, Asst. Professor, Indian Law Institute, analysed the existing legislations related to sexual harassment.  She criticised the criminal Law Amendment Act 2013 as Govt was rush to pass the Act after Nirbhaya case and its poorly drafted and not clearly defined ‘sexually coloured remarks’. Dr. Naseema PK, Asst. Professor, Faculty of Law, Delhi University, acknowledges the audience regarding Gender Justice in Existing Legislations.

Adv. Gulshan Jahan, Saket Court, speak on Combating Domestic Violence against Women through Existing Legal System based on her experience as advocate working in the area. Mr. Manish Kaithwas, Research Scholar, Department of Social Work, University of Delhi described his experience in working with the women victims of sexual harassment at workplace.  Ms. Hasna Hasan,  St. Mary’s Colleges, Yousufguda critically analysed the Maternity Benefit Act and she conclude justice will get only through the effective enforcement of the laws and legal education should be the part of basic education to increase the awareness.

Dr. Neena Pandey, associate professor, Delhi School of Social Work, Delhi University gave keynote address in the concluding session of the Summit. She spoke about the gender barriers in existing social and justice system. Miss Sandra, Research Scholar in Delhi School of Economics delivered welcome address to the program. Dr. Sharnas Muthu, General Secretary, Women’s Manifesto gave introduction to the Women Summit 2018 and explained about the campaign on ‘Voice against Violence’ started by Women’s Manifesto from October 2017 to March 2018 and Mrs. Swaliha CA, President of Women’s Manifesto concluded the Summit.
